Awkward and Thoroughly Kissable

You Know What's Scary?

fear-of-heights-2040805_1920 You know what's scary? Asking people to read your books. Writing is safe. Writers are their own worst enemies, and if we get out of our own way, we can write some pretty good stuff. But asking other people to read it? Releasing those characters that you have loved and nurtured and kept safe in the warm cocoon of your brain? Trusting other people with those fragile words?

Scary.

You know what's scarier?

Giving those words and those characters to strangers who are going to read it out loud and share it with the internet.

writershipAll of this to say, my episode of The Writership was posted while I was on a boat in the middle of the ocean. Seems fitting somehow. It took about four months, from submission to posting. I thought I'd be excited, but it took me four days after I got back to work up the courage to listen.

But it wasn't that bad.

In fact it was pretty painless. Leslie and Clark were lovely from beginning to end, and true to form, their critique was thoughtful and specific enough to help me, while still being broad enough to help other writers. So if you're excited about The Pick Up, have a listen! And if you're a writer who needs help sharpening your editing skills (don't we all?), maybe check out some of the archives. Thoughtful, kind critique is a gift, and makes sharing your work not quite so scary after all.
